TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) said that partnership between Asian and African countries has entered its most interesting stage. In the last decade, economic projections in both regions have showed improvements and have resulted in various economic and business cooperation opportunities.
The complementing economy of Asian and African countries can be seen for example in the Free Trade framework between ASEAN and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), where SADC member states provide agricultural products for ASEAN while ASEAN provides electronics, cars, and machineries for its African counterparts.
Kadin hoped that the trade volume between Indonesia and Africa could increase by 80 percent in the next three years, from US$10.70 billion to US$20 billion annually. However, according to Kadin’s record, the number is still far below the trade volume between Africa and China, which reached up to US$200 billion, and between Africa and India, which reached up to US$ 70 billion.
