TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Seven crew members believed to be trapped and sunk with KM Kumala Endah vessel in the waters of Belawan in North Sumatra Province.
“Those seven crews are believed to be stuck inside the cargo ship carrying building materials,” Operation Section Chief SAR Medan, Gusti Syaiful, said in Belawan on Sunday.
Divers from SAR team Medan who has combed the waters of Belawan have yet discovered a single one one of them.
“The divers, consisting of six people, have combed the area where the cargo ship drowned. However, the results were zero,” Syaiful said.
During the 6th day of the search, SAR team Medan dove up to 8 meters, as under water current were not too friendly.
KM Kumala Endah drowned Tuesday, Mar 24, around 4:30 local time, during an attempt to load 700 tons of construction materials from Belawan Lama Harbor to Pendawangan, West Kalimantan.
The Kumala was carrying 14 people, including crews and a captain.
Five of them were discovered alive after 5-days floating in the sea, while two others, Daniel and Sutimin were discovered dead on Thursday, March 26.
