TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The chairman of the Golkar Party’s Advisory Council, Akbar Tanjung, will arrange a meeting for the party’s chair Aburizal Bakrie and Golkar deputy chief Agung Laksono on Friday night in what appears to be an attempt to settle the dispute between the two party seniors.
“We are going to meet tonight to seek solutions to the rifts in the party,” Akbar told Tempo on Friday, November 28, 2014. Akbar said the meeting would be held at his private residence, and that he arranged the meeting after Ical phoned him on Friday morning.
Akbar said a number of members of the party’s Advisory Council would join the meeting. “This meeting is necessary to remedy the party’s condition,” the former Golkar chair explained.
Last night, Akbar called on Golkar officials to postpone the party’s national conference from November 30 to December 3 in Bali in a bid to shun further internal cracks in the party.
“To avert conflicts and keep the situations from worsening and for the party’s solidity, it’s better to delay the national conference,” he said.
Akbar said the decision resulted from a prior five-hour meeting involving thirteen members of the party’s Advisory Council. He added the conflicts, which were sparked by the disputed schedule of the party’s national conference, had posed a threat to the party’s solidity.
