TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Around 1,000 people packed in the Tgk. Chik Di Tiro Hall — also known as Social Building — in Banda Aceh, to have joyous coffee and Aceh’s traditional culinary experiences at the 2014 Banda Aceh Coffee Festival.
Banda Aceh Mayor Illiza who opened the festival said that the city is not even a coffee-producing region, yet there are more coffee drinkers there compared to other regions in Aceh Province.
Most of the coffee shops in Banda Aceh has also started to developed into more modern place to enjoy coffee.
“[The coffee shops] provided Wi-Fi for the guests so that they can enjoy coffee while surfing on the internet,” said Illiza.
This becomes the reason why people call Aceh as the ‘Land of a Thousand Coffee Shops’. Banda Aceh also establishes good relationship with coffee producing regions such as Central Aceh and Bener Meriah.
“Coffee has contributed a lot to Banda Aceh's economicwelfare because coffee shops would definitely thrives here,” Illiza added.
