TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of universities are challenged to create energy-efficient cars in Indonesia Energy Marathon Challenge competition (IEMC) 2014. The annual competition to create fuel-efficient cars is held until today at Kenjeran Park Circuit, Surabaya and was attended by 68 teams from various universities in Indonesia.
Under the theme of 'Innovate and Inspire', the event is initiated after concerns of energy crisis that started to hit the world including Indonesia.
"Therefore, all universities are demanded to be able to create fuel-efficient vehicles but still [the ones that are] environmentally friendly," said Chief Organizer of IEMC 2014, Bambang Arip Dwiyantoro, Thursday.
There are two types of competitions in the IEMC: the on-track and off-track competition. In the on-track competition, the speed and fuel efficiency of a vehicle is assessed. Whereas the off-track competition includes the assesment of best design, best team and best video, among others.
"The number of participants increased up to 60 percent compared to last year," Bambang said.
