TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The director for air traffic and transport at the Directorate General of Air Transport of the Transport Ministry Djoko Muriatmojo, said that government authorities has passed a regulation that obliges airliners to incorporate airport taxes into their basic fare structure.
"The regulation was passed a couple of days ago," said Djoko to Tempo on Monday, September 15, 2014. According to Djoko, the regulation will be left to Angkasa Pura I and II - as the sole administrators of airports throughout Indonesia - to implement.
As such, the technicalities surrounding the implementation will be decided on by Angkasa Pura. "They will be the ones doing the technical negotiations with the airlines," said Djoko.
To date, only Garuda Indonesia and its' low-cost subsidiary Citilink have incorporated airport taxes into their fare structure.
As a result, passengers travelling on other airlines have to pay airport taxes separately during check-in at the airport - the amount of which varies from one airport to another.
