TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government of China mentioned the existence of a security threat coming from iPhone, especially the ones using an iOS 7 operating system. In the operating system, it consist of an encryption-function that acquired its data based on the users' locations.
The encryption process is feared to track secret data and then distribute it to certain parties. Other than gathering datas, iOS 7 is also capable of recording places that user’s often go to.
“Apple would need to take on any legal responsibilities if data leaks caused by the firm's devices caused harm,” the Chinese Government said through China Central Television (CCTV), Monday, July 14, 2014.
Responding to the accusation, Apple issued an official statement. They said that the purpose of the location-tracker function in iOS 7 is to monitor the users' activities such as shopping, traveling and to know how much time it takes to go to a given place. Apple’s representative said that the processing data level is only for the user, it will not track locations or the existence in detail.
Eventhough being criticized, Apple conveyed their appreciation towards China for warning their people to be aware of the threats in cyberspace. The company also gave clear information to iPhone users in China that the software created by Apple will not threaten the security and privacy of the user.
Apple also ensured that their company has never cooperate with any other countries involving the data collecting of users.
