TEMPO.CO, Silverstone - Mercedes' success in dominating the Formula One grand prix podium has kept the Germany racing team on top position of the constructor’s standings. Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel said his team will have difficulties in overtaking Mercedes' points.
Different from the past four seasons where Red Bull reins the podiums, two Red Bull’s racers Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel are thrown far from the top competition. Until the ninth series of the total 19 GP, Red Bull has only secured one podium in Canada through Ricciardo.
"Right now the gap is very big and we haven't really closed the gap since race one," Vettel, who has scored podiums in Malaysia and Canada, said as quoted by Formula One.
Vettel could only steal the third podium in Malaysia and Canada GP keeping Red Bull behind Mercedes with 158 points gap.
Vettel, however, is putting hope that a potential ban on Front-and-Rear Interconnected Suspension (FRIC) systems issued by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) could alter the competitive order.
"Obviously we know what we are running. We don't know what they [Red Bull's rivals] are running, but it is pretty clear what the FIA have said, so some teams will probably be more affected, others less," he added.
