TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mozilla announced former marketing director Chris Beard as the company’s interim CEO on Monday, a week after Brendan Eich decided to resign over his opposition to same sex marriage.
Eich donated US$1000 to the 2008 campaign for Proposition 8, a law banning same-sex marriage in California. Mozilla staff openly rejected Eich as CEO soon after his appointment, and there was widespread anger in the tech community.
Beard previously works as Mozilla’s product management in his early days, and served as marketing director from 2004 to 2013. He joined Greylock Partners as an executive in 2013.
"In this time of transition there is no better person to lead us. Chris has one of the clearest visions of how to take the Mozilla mission and turn it into programs and activities and product ideas that I have ever seen," Mozilla Chairwoman Mitchell Baker said.
