TEMPO.CO, Majalengka - In commemoration of its eighth anniversary, Jatiwangi Art Factory (JAF), established on September 27, 2005, held various activities. JAF founder Arief Yudi said there is a series of four events that will be held from August until October this year.

The anniversary kicked off with the Future Festival held by JAF along with Marco Kusumawijaya and Ruang Jakarta (Rujak) in Jatisura village in Jatiwangi sub-district, Majalengka district, West Java. The Jatisura villagers were asked to pour out their hopes and dreams for Jatisura village in 2023. There were also two other programs named Sandiwara Radio (Radio Play) and SoundSculpture where British artists Teresa Birks and Delete Memory along with Irwan Ahmet and Tita Salina participated by portraying their creativity.

The art exhibition showcases the works of 16 artists from Jakarta, Bandung and Yogyakarta until October 17.

However, unlike usual exhibitions, the show entitled "Kediaman yang Tidak Pernah Tinggal Diam" (A Residence That Never Resides) was not held at the JAF gallery located on Jalan Makmur in Jatisura village. Instead, the exhibition was held in the homes of the villagers.

"Fifteen homes displayed 16 works of the artists," said Arief.

Jatisura village chief Ginggi Syarif Hasyim said it was not difficult to ask his villagers to provide space for these artists. The artists were willing to have these art pieces placed in their homes without any type of insurance for the artwork.

Most of the artwork was displayed in the living room of the homes of Jatisura’s villagers such as video recordings, art installations and statues. However, some were also placed on terraces, warungs, and warehouses.

A video by artist Anggun Priambodo, for example, was played on a television placed in a warehouse owned by one of the villagers. The concept was similar to a mini theater where anyone is welcome to enter and watch the video.

Ginggi said this type of exhibition did not only familiarize villagers with art, but it also created a certain kind of bond among the villagers. This was the goal of the event, to make these villagers feel closer to their neighbors.
