TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deddy Herlambang, a transportation expert from the Institute of Transportation Studies, supported the police’s plan to implement the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (E-TLE) system.

“In principle, it is good, because it is accountable,” said Deddy, Wednesday, September 19.

Deddy hopes that this system will not only detect violations of vehicles passing the zebra crossing or traffic lights. “This policy must be able to monitor vehicles that are parked on the sidewalk or the sterile places for parking. So it is comprehensive to take action,” he said.

The police also need to ensure registration and identification (ERI) electronic readiness that contains data on vehicles and their owners. After the ERI is ready, the data must be connected to the police database and SDC Safety Driving Center (SDC).

The police need to develop so that the payment system in e-tilang (electronic ticketing) is immediately debited through the account of the violating driver. “But also make sure that the bills are sent to the home. Also, the SIM (driving license) address is in accordance with the electronic ID card,” he said.

According to Deddy, the police must strive to disseminate the implementation of this e-tilang plan. “So the dissemination of this system must be layered involving all stakeholders so that there is no missing system across sectors,” he said.

Previously, the Traffic Director of the Jakarta Police, Senior Commissioner Yusuf, said that the trial of the electronic ticketing system would be held on October 1 on the Sudirman-Thamrin road section.
