Sandiaga Uno Targets LRT to be Operational Before Asian Games

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno has targetted Jakarta Light Rail Transit (LRT) of Kelapa Gading-Velodrome to be operational before 2018 Asian Games begins.
“We will operate it [LRT] before Asian Games around July,” said Sandiaga Uno in the City Hall, Monday, April 16.
However, Sandiaga Uno demanded the related contractor to keep monitoring the work health and safety. “Don't be neglectful because rushing the work, and then ignore the standard operating procedure (SOP) which might lead to an accident,” said Sandiaga.

Earlier, Vice President Jusuf Kalla said it is impossible to operate LRT Jakarta during the games because the construction could not be completed in a short time.
"The LRT cannot be used for the Asian Games. There are only four months remaining. There are six venues in Jakarta such as Senayan, Kemayoran, Sunter that cannot wait [for LRT]," Kalla said.
The LRT project was planned to transport the 2018 Asian Games contingent in Jakarta and Palembang. However, the construction in Jakarta has not been completed thus far.
