TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that the government will soon apply a fair regulation on conventional and online-based transportations in Indonesia.

Luhut revealed that the government will hold a coordination meeting on Friday, March 24, 2017, deliberating regulations on, among other, the tariff to promote fair competition.

“We certainly want justice, so we can’t give privilege, and we can’t kill them. Therefore, we set upper and lower thresholds, so they can live together,” he said in Jakarta on Thursday, March 23, 2017.

Minister Luhut explained that every company must comply with regulations applied by the government. He asserted that investors may leave if they refuse to comply with the regulations.

“They cannot reject [regulations]. If they do, they can go. We’re the regulator. We protect investment in Indonesia,” he said.

According to the minister, the government has considered fares that have been charged by transportation companies, both conventional and online-based transportations, in order to determine fares that can be acceptable for all.

“We’ll find the solution. But the fares won’t be as cheap as not since we need to maintain conventional taxis,” Luhut explained.
