TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Soekarno-Hatta airport custom authorities have foiled attempts to smuggle drug into the country three times since late last month.

Altogether, 4,200 grams of methamphetamine worth Rp5.6 billion on the street, were confiscated, head of the Soekarno Hatta airport customs office Okto Irianto said on Tuesday.

The first case was on April 26 when a Chinese identified as XY from Hong Kong was nabbed with 1,960 grams of the drug.

The second case was on May 8, when the customs authorities found 1,162 grams at the PJT warehouse and the third case was on May 10 with 1,078 grams of the drug found hidden on three iron tubes in the same warehouse.

The suspects in the three cases have been handed over to the airport police.

Deputy chief of anti drug unit of the airport police Adj. Comr Subekti said the suspects were believed to be members of an international drug syndicate.

"We are still investigating the cases," he said.

The government has acted firmly against drug crime executing more than ten death row convicts so far this year.
