TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An organization called the Indonesian Peoples' Decree Movement (GDRI) demanded acting Corruption Eradication Commission chief Taufiequrachman Ruki to resign from his position for losing his moral legitimation in leading the anti-graft commission. The demand was made as a response to Ruki's comment, stating that the KPK had conceded defeat in the conflict with the National Police and for handing over the Budi Gunawan case to the Attorney General's Office.

"KPK has been attacked by external parties. Now, the [KPK] acting chief is trying to weaken the KPK from within," Arif Susanto, a GDRI member and a researcher at the Indonesian Institute for Development and Democracy, said on Wednesday, March 4, 2015.

According to Arif, Ruki's decision to hand over Budi Gunawan's case was inappropriate because many people are struggling to defend the KPK. Arif added that the handover was a sign that the anti-graft commission is losing a battle against political power and evil.

The GDRI also highlighted Ruki's statements and stances that contradicted anti-corruption efforts, such as refusing to expose big cases, limiting investigation into cases and handing over Budi Gunawan's case to the Attorney General's Office.
