Brazil, Netherlands Recall Ambassadors after Convicts Execution

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry has received official letters from the Brazilian and Dutch governments on the temporary recall of their ambassadors following the execution of their citizens who were condemned to death for smuggling narcotics into the country.
The ministry’s spokesman, Armanatha Nasir, said the Brazilian government submitted their letter on Sunday, January 18, 2015. “Brazil has recalled their ambassador for consultation in their country,” he told Tempo on Monday, January 19, 2015.
He added the Dutch government also sent their official notice regarding its ambassadorial recall on Monday. “It’s the country’s right as the sender of the ambassador,” he said.
“Indonesia expects to improve bilateral ties with all friendly countries, including Brazil and the Netherlands,” he added.
The government executed six drug convicts on Sunday, including Indonesian citizen Rani Andriani alias Melisa Aprilia and five foreign nationals: Marco Archer Cardoso (Brazil), Ang Kiem Soei aka Tommy Wijaya (the Netherlands), Namaona Denis (Malawi), Daniel Enemuo (Nigeria) and Tran Thi Bich Hanh (Vietnam).
