Students, Police Clash in Fuel Hike Protest

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Students held another protest against the subsidized fuel price hike in Jakarta. This time, a number of students of the Indonesian Christian University (UKI) staged the protest near their campus site in Cawang, East Jakarta on Wednesday evening, November 19
Some 200 students closed the road from Cililitan to Tanjung Priok, resulting in congestion. Students also burned tires on a curb in front of campus.
Students who are inside the campus could bee seen throwing molotov bombs and rocks at cops patrolling outside. Meanwhile, the police threw tear gas to disperse ward the students off.
As of Thursday morning, some 100 officers from the East Jakarta Police were still guarding the protest site for security and safety reasons.
