TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) suspects Pakpak Bharat Regent Remigo Yolando Berutu had received Rp550 million in bribe money that was paid in stages.

"In total, Remigo received Rp550 million," KPK chairman Agus Rahardjo said in Jakarta, Sunday, November 18.

Agus said that Remigo received Rp150 million on November 16, Rp250 millio on November 17, and Rp150 million on November 18, which was when the KPK held a sting operation.

Agus said that Remigo is suspected of ordering a number of his trusted people to collect money from partners who worked on several projects in the Pakpak Bharat Regency.

Agus said the KPK suspects that Remigo used the money to save his wife, who is in trouble with the law.

"We suspect he used the money for personal affairs; including to 'secure' a case involving his wife. The case is now being investigated by law officers in Medan," Agus said.

The regent's wife is reportedly under investigation for alleged corruption that is now being handled by the North Sumatera Police.

Agus said that in addition to Remigo, the KPK had also named two other suspects: David Anderson and Hendriko Sembiring.
