TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) head Yani Wahyu Purwoko allowed traders to sell sacrificial animals on the sidewalk with some conditions.

“They must obtain the permit from the subdistrict office. Then Satpol PP will later assist the management,” said Yani in a phone call with Tempo today, August 14.

Yani explained only certain sidewalks could be used for traders, for example, the side road of Jl. Kramat Sentiong, Central Jakarta, while the main roads were prohibited. “The main roads such as Jl. Kramat Raya or Salemba are restricted,” he underlined.

Ahead of Eid el-Adha on August 22, 2018, several traders of livestock opened the sales booth on the side of streets such as in Jl. Galur where traders built the goat pen from bamboos.

However, the area around Pulomas Equestrian, which was last year crowded by livestock shops, was empty form traders this year due to the policy issued by Marine, Agriculture, and Food Security (KPKP) Agency.

The head of Farms and Animal Health Department at East Jakarta’s KPKP Agency, Irma Budiany, said the prohibition was aimed at preventing virus of livestock to horses for its participation in the 2018 Asian Games.

Yani mentioned the selling of sacrificial animals in the housing complex, including in the sidewalk, was part of the local wisdom. However, it must be regulated by the government.
