TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Following the prison riot sparked by terrorist inmates killing several police personnel, House of Representatives’ (DPR) law commission member Masinton Pasaribu urged the National Police’s Mobile Brigade Unit (Brimob) to evaluate its detention center management.

“The police must conduct an evaluation on how they manage their detention center, especially Brimob, to prevent similar cases from recurring,” said Masinton today.

However, Masinton said that he has not yet received a full report about the prison riot and decided to not further speculate about the cause of the riot.

Masinton said that prison riots involving terrorist convicts and prison guards have happened several times, such as the one that took place in November of 2017. He called on the police to pay a full attention to such a case.

“If this happened twice, this means that there is a problem. Either [the problem is related to] the terrorist convicts or the security guards,” said Masinton.

Earlier reports suggested that the incident happened after the special anti-terrorism police unit (Densus 88) arrested three suspects allegedly linked to radical group Jamaah Ansharut Daullah (JAD). They were detained at the Brimob detention center.

The three convicted terrorists, M. Mulyadi, Abid Faqihuddin, and Anang Rachman, were captured when assembling Triacetone Triperoxide (TATP) bombs and planning to launch suicide attacks at several police stations in Bogor, West Java.
