Tempo News: Commemorating 20 Years of Indonesian Reform at DPR HQ

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tempo Media Group, partnering with the House of Representatives (DPR), is set to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Indonesia`s reform in an event entitled 20 years of reform: Back to the House of the People at the parliamentary complex in Senayan from May 7-21.
Upon the choice of location, Tempo chief Arif Zulkifli explained that the parliament complex was one of the meeting points where college students and people in general, demanded a reform.
“This event is to commemorate the reform 20 years ago, remembering those who have passed and [thinking about] us who have yet fully carried the mandate towards change,” said Arif on Saturday, May 5.
DPR Speaker Bambang Soesatyo will officially commence series of events on the first day; starting with a public discussion on the progress of 1998 activists that are currently the DPR members. It will feature speakers such as MPR Chairman Ahmad Basarah, DPR Deputy Speaker Fahri Hamzah, and 1998 activist Wilson Abrigados. A photo exhibition will also be held during the event.
The following day, May 8, committee members will hold another public discussion on the youth generation during the reform era followed by a poem recital session that will be participated by the Parliament members and Indonesian State Ministries, among others, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, Minister Susi Pudjiastuti, and Minister Retno Marsudi. JRX SID and Marjinal will also tone the event by performing there.
Furthermore, DPR Speaker Bambang Soesatyo said that this event is not just to commemorate 20 years of the reform era, but is also a chance for the DPR to reach back to the people; “Because the DPR is the house for the people,” he said in February.
