TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Public Relations Head at Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Hary Tirto Djatmiko stated that in recent days, particularly in the past week, the Jakarta Greater Area (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi) experience extreme weather which tends to be hotter than previous days.

Hary said the condition shows that Indonesia currently at transition period from the cold season to warm, dry season. However, the rain might possibly fall in the evening until night.

“The weather soon will be shifted from rainy to dry season or known as the transition season,” Hary told Tempo, Monday, April 16. In addition, the sun is currently around the earth's equator which makes the heat radiation felt more blazing.

“If people feel stiflingly hot, it means the humidity is quite high and the rain likely fall in the afternoon and night,” said Hary, adding that transition period commonly occurs in March until May.

The transition season occurs twice every seasonal change, from dry season to rainy season and vice versa. “Now it is the transition season, then the dry season will be in June until August, and the next transition period is in September until November,” said Hary.

Hary further explained BMKG forecasted the air temperature in April will be around 32 until 34 degrees Celcius with a humidity of 60 to 95 percent. “The temperature in April normally at 33 until 36 degrees Celcius, so now the weather could be said as normal,” he noted.
