Govt: Kertajati Airport Ready to Serve 2018 Hajj Embarkation

TEMPO.CO, Majalengka - Transportation Ministry`s Air Transport Director-General Agus Santoso ensured Kertajati Airport, Majalengka, West Java will be ready to serve Hajj departures in July despite the runway extension for as many as 3,200 meters will be completed in year`s end.
“The runway length is only 2,750 meters so far. But it is enough for Hajj embarkation in July 2018 with Airbus A330,” said Agus when met by Tempo in the airport, Wednesday, April 4.

Agus explained two aircrafts commonly used for hajj service from Indonesia are Airbus A330 and Boeing 777. The required length of the runway for Airbus A330 fleet is 2,500 meter, while for Boeing 777 is 3,000 x 60 meter.
The runway extension is managed by state-owned airport operator PT AP II that is recently named the operator of Kertajati Airport by PT West Java International Airport (BIJB).
The 3,200-meter runway of Kertajati Airport is expected to be complete at the end of 2018 and ready to operate in 2019. The extension cost is approximately at Rp1,4 trillion.
