Kertajati Airport Expected to Narrow Down Economic Inequality

TEMPO.CO, West Java - West Java province-owned enterprise, PT Bandara Internasional Jawa Barat (BIJB) Secretary Wasfan W Widodo stated that West Java society should be able to seize the opportunity to enhance their economy with the establishment of international airport in Kertajati, Majalengka.

“BIJB plays a role to balance economic growth in the area. It is expected that economic growth will rise in the northern area. It is logical for Western areas to rapidly develop due to their proximity to the capital," Wasfan said in Bandung on Friday (10/11).

BIJB is predicted to absorb 2.7 million manpower in the first year of operation. Wasfan expects the local government can identify potentials that can be developed from the area.

Pasundan University Economist Acuviarta Kartabi claimed that economic inequality between the northern and western areas of West Java will reduce with BIJB. He is convinced that the first year of BIJB operation will result in a rise of 1 to 1.5 percent of economic growth.
