TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Eight Indonesian coffee entrepreneurs met with Chinese businessmen to form a strategy to increase the export value to the largest populated country in the world.
“We had the initiative to gather them to construct a formula in increasing Indonesia’s coffee export value to China,” said Indonesia Consulate General in Guangzhou Ratu Silvy Gayatri on Monday, November 13.
The discussion was held in the form of a discussion last week that also involved the South China Indonesian Business Association (SCIBA), the Specialty Coffee Association of Indonesia (SCAI), and businesses from Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Hong Kong.
According to Silvy, throughout January-September of 2017, Indonesia’s coffee export to China generated US$34.1 million revenue. Indonesia is currently the second largest coffee exporter to China behind Vietnam that managed to obtain US$368.8 million in revenue.
“Together with Brazil, Vietnam, and Colombia, Indonesia is one of four largest coffee producing countries in the world,” said Silvy.
Another fact shows that China’s coffee consumption per capita keeps on improving from 15 to 30 percent annually. It is significant compared to the world’s coffee consumption of 2.3 percent each year.
