TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) dismissed a rumor that the Defense Ministry and the Indonesian Military (TNI) had refused to provide the agency with an audit access.
“I can confirm that the Defense Minister and the Military Commander had never prohibited the BPK to conduct an audit,” BPK official Agung Firman Sampurna said at his office in Jakarta today, Oct. 12.
Agung revealed that the BPK has conducted 27 audits on the Defense Ministry’s financial statement and performances over the last ten years.
During the audits, Agung added, Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu, Military Commander Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo, and unit leaders in the interior of the Defense Ministry were always cooperative.
Agung admitted that the BPK had difficulties when selecting several accounts for financial statement audit purposes. “The difficulties were related to documentation, substantive matters, and others,” he said.
However, Agung revealed the BPK finally managed to conduct the audits after explaining the issues to the Defense Ministry.
The BPK, Agung said, ensured that the move was taken to maintain accountability. He is also convinced that the Defense Ministry is aiming at protecting the national resiliency.
Earlier, BPK head Moerhamadi Soerja Dijanegara admitted that Gatot and Ryamizard had prohibited the BPK to conduct an audit on the primary defense systems (alutsista). BPK’s team is currently conducting a special purpose audits in relation to the primary defense systems. The team is led by Agung Firman Sampurna.
