TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Police have cracked down on the owners and masterminds behind the distribution of 252.5 kilogram of marijuana that was confiscated from a car on September 25. The purchase order apparently came from a prison in Bandung, West Java.
Jakarta Police Drugs Investigation Unit Director Sr. Comr. Suwondo Nainggolan, said that three convicts were nabbed on Friday in the investigation into the marijuana case.
Police said that investigators made the arrests after questioning a suspect with the initials AEL who had earlier been arrested.
Earlier on September 25, police apprehended the driver of a pick-up car that carried 252.5 kilograms of marijuana. The car was pulled over by police for violating the car rationing policy.
Marijuana was hidden in fruit baskets covered by oranges. After an examination, police released the driver as he was considered innocent. The driver said that he was not aware that he had transported marijuana.
Police later found out that 252.5 kilogram marijuana worth Rp500 million was purchased by a suspect named Kebo from a person who is still at large.
