TEMPO.CO, Vancouver - Women Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Yohana Susana Yembise received an Outstanding Alumni Award from Simon Fraser University, Canada, in the field of public services.
Doctor Yembise, according to Simon Fraser University Rector Prof. Andrew Petter, received the award for her contribution in developing programs for women empowerment and child protection by advocating access to education, health, and social services.
According to the press release we received from the Indonesian Embassy in Ottawa, Canada, on Friday, September 15, the award ceremony was held at the Four Seasons hotel that was attended by 300 SFU alumni.
Minister Yohana obtained her Master of Arts degree from the Faculty of Education at SFU in 1994. She received the honor because she is considered to be succeeded in dismissing the myth regarding gender limitations. She dedicated her award to Indonesian women, especially Papuan women.
One of her many programs that were considered by the University to be successful was Yohana’s mapping regarding women and children, the initiatives to end violence against women, human trafficking and eliminating economic challenges that face women.
Canada's SFU Outstanding Alumni Awards is a prestigious award that was first held in 1983. Other than Minister Yasona, this year’s award receivers include Nathan Nunn (the Co-founder of Vancouver Folk Music Festival), Nathan Nunn (a professor at Harvard University and one of the "25 Economist under 45" according to the International Monetary Fund) and Frode Strand-Nielsen (Founder of FSN Capital, fastest growing equity firm in Europe).
