TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat said that the capital city’s major projects will be completed next year. He understands that the projects have led to extreme traffic jam on a daily basis, adding that the administration will accelerate the completion of the projects for the people.

“I have said it before, please be understanding. We have to respect each other. If we don’t accelerate them now, we will be late again next year,” Djarot said at the City Hall yesterday.

Djarot said that the administration is expediting infrastructure development, particularly in the public transportation sector. Some infrastructure projects being developed include flyovers, underpasses, mass rapid transit (MRT) and light rail transit (LRT).

“Insha Allah, next year will see the completion of major projects. But this year, flyovers and underpasses will be completed to reduce [congestion] for MRT,” Djarot Saiful Hidayat said.

Jakarta Public Works Department official Hananto Krisna said that his office is developing flyovers on Jalan Pancoran, South Jakarta; Jalan Cipinang Lontar, East Jakarta; Jalan Bintaro, South Jakarta. Whereas underpasses are being built on Jalan Matraman, East Jakarta; Jalan Mampang, South Jakarta; Jalan Kartini, South Jakarta, among others.

Hananto said that the construction of flyovers is 50 percent complete, whereas underpass is 40-45 percent complete. “The target of completion is the end of 2017,” he said.
