TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The rupiah was traded at Rp13,320 per the US dollar in interbank trading this morning.
“The rupiah exchange maintains the upward trend against the US dollar, trade surplus in June 2017 was a contributing factor, among others,” Sammuel Sekuritas economist Rangga Cipta said today in Jakarta.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports a trade surplus of 1.63 billion US dollars in June 2017.
He added that US dollar tends to weaken against global currencies, which is a positive for the domestic currency.

“The rupiah can still strengthen amid consistently weaker dollar in the global market,” he said.
Binaartha Sekuritas analyst Reza Priyambada added that Indonesia’s relatively low debt ratio compared to the G20 countries has helped reduce market anxiety.
