TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Consuming loads of vegetables particularly those containing protein such as soy and grains can generally protect women against early menopause.
Early menopause commonly occurs to women before reaching 45 and it is experienced by 10 percent of women across the globe. Early menopause is associated with higher risks of cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis and diminishing cognitive functions.
In a study published in American Journal of Epidemiology, it indicates that women who consume 6.5 percent of vitamins from vegetables have 16 percent lower risks of early menopause.
For women, 2000 calories of daily consumption equals to 3 to 4 servings of food such as tofu, beans or breakfast cereal.
In the study, researchers evaluate the relationship between diet and menopause risks to 116,000 women aged between 25 to 42 years old.
