TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla said that he would wait for President Joko Widodo or Jokowi’s final stance on the possibility of a cabinet reshuffle signaled last week.
“President has a prerogative right to [conduct] a reshuffle,” Kalla said after closing the Islamic Economic Congress held by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) in Jakarta on Monday, April 24, 2017.
Earlier during the opening of the congress, President Jokowi indicated that he would conduct a cabinet reshuffle. In his speech, President Jokowi said that he would conduct a reshuffle if a minister was unable to reach the target that he has set.
Jokowi added that he has evaluated which ministers to be rotated, sacked or maintained. The president said that he did not mind if he was said to have set an extremely high bar.
According to Kalla, President Jokowi must have considered various aspects before announcing a cabinet reshuffle. In addition, the vice president explained that the consideration would be based on assessments.
“Reshuffle or no reshuffle, it would depend on evaluations conducted by the President. It’s a government’s business,” Jusuf Kalla concluded.
