Jakarta Police Deploy 34,000 Personnel for Runoff Election

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Police will deploy 34,627 personnel in the runoff election on April 19, 2017. Jakarta Metro Police chief Insp. Gen. M. Iriawan said that the National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) will help secure the election.
Iriawan said that the TNI will deploy 15,000 personnel, whereas Satpol PP and the Community Protection Agency (Linmas) will prepare 15,099 personnel. In total, as many as 64,726 personnel will ensure security during the runoff election. The joint personnel will be deployed in polling stations.
“A polling station will be secured by one cop, one military personnel, and one Satpol PP personnel, and also helped by Linmas personnel,” Iriawan told a press conference at Jakarta Military Command Headquarters on Thursday, April 13, 2017.
“In case of any disturbance in any polling station, additional forces will be deployed if needed. The aim is to ensure security during the election on the 19th [April],” he said.
