TEMPO.CO, Rantauprapat, North Sumatra - The District Education Office of Labuhanbatu, North Sumatra, said it has withdrawn thousands of packages of Islamic text books for students of the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) Islamic school as the books are potential to confuse Islamic community.

Head of the Labuhanbatu Education Office Sarimpunan said he had received report about problem in the drawing on the book cover depicting ritual prayers.

"I have passed order to the head masters of schools, which already distributed the books for the withdrawal of the text books," Sarimpunan said on Wednesday.

He said he would ban the distribution of the books which have the yellow green color each having 96 pages, adding the books need correction.

Chairman of the Labuhanbatu branch of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) KH. M. Darwis Husin Lc called on the district administration to check the contents of text books especially books on Islam to ensure that the books would provide good education for the children.

He said the animation drawing on the cover of the Islamic text books for 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades of the elementary school students of the Islamic school depicted wrong movements in ritual prayer.

The teacher at the Al-Washliyah of the Univa Labuhanbatu said he hoped the district administration to withdraw the books from circulation for correction.
