TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Zulkifli Hasan expressed his regrets regarding the result of a survey indicating the House of Representatives (DPR) as the most corrupt institution.
The survey was conducted by Transparency International in the Global Corruption Barometer (GCB) 2017, which was released early this month. The survey was participated by 1,000 respondents in 31 provinces.
The survey was conducted since 2015 throughout 2017. The results show 54 percent of respondents think that the House of Representatives as the most corrupt institution.
Gaining 50 percent, the second most corrupt according to the survey are bureaucracy institutions, followed by the Regional Legislative Council which received 47 percent, and the Tax Directorate General with 45 percent.
Back in 2013 the House of Representatives placed second in the survey. At that time, the Indonesian National Police was crowned as the most corrupt. This shows that there was a drastic shift of perception by the public in the last three years.
“DPR must consider an evaluation,” says Zulkifli Hasan on Wednesday, March 22, 2017.
According to him, the House of Representatives must immediately improve its performance. “In order to repair an already tarnished image in the eyes of the public,” says the Chairman.
