TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pollster Indo Barometer released its survey on public’s satisfaction with the administration of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi and Vice President Jusuf Kalla over the last 2.5 years.
Indo Barometer director M. Qodari said that more than half of 1,200 respondents expressed their satisfaction with President Jokowi’s performance.
“The public satisfaction level today is about 64.4 percent,” Qodari said in Jakarta on Wednesday, March 22, 2017.
Meanwhile, 32 percent of the respondents said that they were unhappy with President Jokowi’s performance and 1.6 percent did not provide answers.
Among reasons for the favorable view, Qodari explained, are concrete changes brought by President Jokowi and the realization of education and health programs. The public perceives that President Jokowi has been successful in carrying out programs in the fields of development, education, the Indonesia Smart Card and others.
On the other hand, the public viewed that President Jokowi’s administration has been under Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle’s (PDIP) control. They also viewed that the government failed to stabilize prices of basic necessities and issued pro-China policies.
Qodari revealed that 82 percent of the respondents viewed that the country is heading in the right direction, while only 5.2 percent viewed otherwise. The rest chose not to provide answers.
The majority of respondents viewed that economic and political condition under President Jokowi’s leadership has been unfavorable. However, in terms of security, social and culture, the majority expressed positive views.
“Meanwhile, in the law enforcement sector, the rating was moderate,” he said.
Qodari said that the survey was conducted from March 4 to 17 across the country with a confidence level of 95 percent. Respondents were selected by a multistage random sampling method.
