TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An elevator dropped from the 7th floor of Blok M Square shopping center in South Jakarta. The elevator is one that goes up to the Nurul Iman Mosque located on that floor.
At the time, Jakarta governor's candidate Anies Baswedan was there to practice his Friday prayer. "Oh God, when? Is there an ambulance? How many victims? We will go there to check," he said when told about what happened.
The elevator fell seven stories down after Friday prayers finished were leaving the mosque. According to one of the people who were in that elevator, Sutoto, the elevator fell due to over-capacity.
"By the time people got in and the doors closed, the elevator immediately fell," he said.
Witnesses said there were more than 10 people inside the elevator, including secondary school children. One of the people inside the elevator said that the elevator's ceiling also fell off.
At the time of this report, some of the victims have been taken to the Pertamina Central Hospital, while others are still at the location.
