TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government stated that the trespassing incident that took place at the Indonesian Consulate General in Melbourne should be considered as a criminal offense. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said that he already received reports of the incident from the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
"It's a crime. I've received reports on the added security personnel in Australia," Jokowi said on Monday, January 9, 2017.
Jokowi said that the trespassing is not related to the Indonesia's unity and should be considered as Australia's internal problem.
Previously on Friday, January 6, 2017, two unknown people broke into the Indonesian Consulate General office in Melbourne, Australia. One person succeeded to enter the office after climbing through a 2.5 meters wall, and managed to hoist the Morning Star flag that symbolizes the Free Papua Movement (OPM).
The Indonesian government has demanded Australian authorities to conduct a thorough investigation on the incident, and take legal action against the perpetrators.
