TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said that the decision to arrest inactive Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama for allegedly committing religious blasphemy is now in the hands of the Attorney General’s Office (AGO).
“Investigators of National Police’s Criminal Investigation Corps (Bareskrim) did not arrest [Ahok]. The AGO will decide whether they will follow what investigators have done or decide it themselves,” Rikwanto said at the National Police Headquarter in Jakarta on Thursday, December 1, 2016.
Earlier, National Police investigators have submitted Ahok’s dossier and evidences to the AGO after the it was declared complete. Rikwanto could not confirm the date of the trial of the case, since the AGO has not issued a prosecution letter yet.
“I’m not sure whether it’s going to be sooner or later. Since a trial should be conducted quickly and comprehensively, it means it will be held soon,” he added.
As a Jakarta Governor candidate in the upcoming election, Rikwanto explained, Ahok is still allowed to continue his campaign.
The AGO on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, declared that Ahok’s dossier has been complete. Ahok is currently charged with articles 156 and 156a for allegedly committing religious blasphemy.
