TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said that Krukut River mitigation is the only way to prevent the flood from inundating Kemang, South Jakarta. "There is no other options," said Ahok on Monday, August 29, 2016.
Ahok said that Krukut River is only five meters in width. It used to be 25 meters.
He added that the narrowing size of the river is caused by growing residential places in the riverside. "We must take care of this," said Ahok.
But he said that the city administration cannot simply take down the buildings with certificates in the location. "We need to be more thoughtful. We might end up purchasing the property," he said.
