TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Financial Servicea Authority (OJK) is currently aiming at cooperating with several countries in Southeast Asia in relation to the ASEAN Banking Integration Framework (ABIF). The OJK had planned to sign a cooperation agreement with Malaysia on Monday, August 1, 2016.
"We are aiming for Thailand, but we will start with Malaysia," said Mulia E. Siregar, OJK's Deputy Commissioner on Banking Supervision in a press conference on Monday, August 1, 2016.
Mulia added that the OJK will prioritize countries listed in the ASEAN Five, including Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines.
"First, Thailand, Singapore is harder to access," Mulia said. However, Mulia added that it is possible to cooperate with other ASEAN countries, such as Myanmar and Vietnam.
The agreement between Indonesia and Malaysia, signed by Chairman of OJK's Board of Commissioners Muliaman D. Hadad and Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Datuk Muhammad bin Ibrahim, include provisions on Qualified ASEAN Bank in the jurisdiction of each country.
