TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti said that her recent crackdown on illegal fishing has revealed other forms of criminal acttivities.

"Other crimes, such as human trafficking, slavery in Benjina, drug smuggling and alcohol," said Susi on Tuesday. December 15, 2015.

According to Susi, the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry will keep on clamping down on illegal fishing. "I believe illegal fishing is the country's problem," Susi said.

Susi said that after waging war on illegal fishing, the fisheries sector recorded a growth of 8.9 percent while other sectors are slowing down.

Susi said that ever since the United States decided to exempt import tariff for Indonesia's fishery products, Indonesia has saved US$400 million. The Minister also believed that Indonesian sea must be protected because the country's natural resources are being destroyed unlawful perpetrators.
