TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) leaders said they were ready to become guarantors for KPK investigator Novel Baswedan so that the police would suspend his arrest. The KPK leaders also declared that they were ready to resign if the police refused to suspend the arrest.
“If it doesn’t work out, I, as one of KPK leaders, will resign. I have responsibilities to the institution, not only to Novel,” acting KPK deputy chief Indriyanto Seno Adji said at his office on Friday, May 1, 2015.
Another acting KPK deputy chief, Johan Budi, said other KPK leaders were set to follow suit.
“Other leaders might resign as well, because the arrest could disrupt all efforts initiated [by the KPK],” Johan said.
However, KPK leaders will make endeavors to suspend Novel’s arrest by sending a letter to appeal for the arrest suspension and lobbying National Police head of crime investigation directorate Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso and National Police chief Gen. Badrodin Haiti.
Earlier, police investigators arrested Novel Baswedan on Friday, May 1, 2015 at around 12 a.m. for skipping police questionings. Novel was accused of being involved in a shooting case against a swallow's nest burglar back in 2004, when he served as the head of crime unit at Bengkulu Police.
