TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Assistant III Asset and Financial Section of Makassar Administration, Burhanuddin, said that a Central Trash Bank will be set up this year. The trash banks will be set up in 78 points in Makassar and the central bank will be located in Toddopuli market region which is also a landfill for non-organic trashes.
“We are in the middle of preparing the procedure in collaboration with Unilever and an LSM Makassar Green and Clean,” said Burhanuddin.
The initiation of such bank, according to Burhanuddin, is triggered by the continuous growth of the population which led to increased trashes volume. The banks is planned to buy the recycle bale non-organic trashes from the residents.
Unilever Manager, Woronasti added that her side is ready to actively participating to support the trash bank program. She explained that the potential of trashes accumulated from the 78 points reaches 182 tons or equal to Rp453 million.
The Makassar Green and Clean Manager, Saharuddin Ridwan also expressed is optimism that the program will solve the trash problem in the city and he is ready to support it.
“Ten thousands of non-organic trashes can be converted into rupiah and answering the people’s daily necessities,” Saharuddin said.
In addition to Unilever and Makassar Green and Clean, there are also several company which will be involved in managing the trash banks.
