TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Police have received a Rp 1,6 trillion fund allocated to help secure the election. However, Chief of Police General Sutarman, stated that the budget can only suffice to secure the first round of the election.
Sutarman mentioned that he has requested Rp 3.5 trillion of budget, based on regional election mapping basis. However, the government had only agreed to allocate Rp 1 trillion, with a latest addition of Rp 600 billion.
Sutarman added that distant areas, such as Aceh, in requires the police to provide expensive coverage. "It the budget fails to suffice, we will take it from the regular budget," said Sutarman. "If it still not enough, some areas will not have security coverage."
In Papua, the budget can only fund a three-day security details. Therefore, Sutarman hoped that the presidential election will only last one round.
