TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Election Commission (KPU) in Bangkalan, East Java, had ensured that convicts at Bangkalan Detention Center will not lose their rights to vote in the upcoming election on April 9. "We will facilitate the convicts to vote based on applicable regulations," Bangkalan KPU chief Fauzan Djakfar said on Tuesday, March 25, 2014.
At the Bangkalan detention center, 92 convicts are registered in a special final voters list (DPT). They comprised of 90 males and two females. "Those who are listed in the DPT will be able to vote at polling station (TPS) number 12 in Pajagalan Village," Fauzan said.
Fauzan added that convicts who are registered outside of Bangkalan can still vote by applying for a transfer from their areas. Other convicts, who are not registered in the special and the general DPTs can vote by showing their valid ID cards.
Bangkalan Detention Center's head of service for convicts, Fajar, said the convicts will vote at polling station number 12, which will be made available by the detention center. Currently, he said, there are 228 convicts at the detention center. "The number is fixed because no convict will be released on the Election Day," he said.
