TEMPO.CO, Pekanbaru - The density of haze pollution in Pekanbaru is yet to show any improvements, with visibility ranges to only at 200 to 300 meters. Reports from the city showed that the sky looked red during the day, a proof of low sun exposure. "The main factor [ to the condition] is that there are still a number of hotspots in Riau," said Agus Widodo, analyst from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Station (BMKG) in Pekanbaru.
Agus added that low speed wind had caused the haze to be trapped in high density. On Wednesday, Agus said that the wind blew at 10 to 20 kilometers per hour, heading NorthEast, South, and SouthWest, bringing the haze to West Sumatra skies.
BMKG forecasted that Riau will remain sunny on Friday and Saturday, while medium intensity rain is expected to pour on Sunday. As for the hotspots, BMKG has noted around 140 hotposts via satellite imaging.
