TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama said the main obstacle to realize a smart city is the people's discipline. "In Jakarta, you need to be firm to apply regulations," he said yesterday during the event called Smart TOD Forum, held at the Ambassador of Japan's residence.
Ahok said the concept and plan of Jakarta has been hampered by the people who are indiscipline. He was referring to dozens of residents who live along the rivers and reservoir. "Our problem is that there are people who have been living along the river and reservoir for 30 to 40 years."
Demolition of unlicensed buildings on the banks of rivers and reservoirs must be carried out strictly. "If there is no building permit and no compromise (with the people), then we must immediately take action," said Ahok.
In terms of those living along Pluit Reservoir, Ahok will prepare 500 hectares of land to build low cost apartments. "The people do not have to pay for the apartment but they must pay fees of Rp5,000-12,000 per day," said Ahok.
In the event last night, the deputy governor met with Japanese contractors who have smart city development program. It is a good thing that Indonesia and Japan have a good relationship which can result in the transfer of information on the concept of 'smart city'.
