TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) Financial Commission has finally elected Bank Indonesia Assistant Governor, Hendar, as the new Deputy Governor. Hendar was elected through a vote last night despite two members walking out and calling for a postponement.
Votes elected in favor of Hendar beating two other candidates, BI assistant governor Mulya Siregar and executive director of Foreign Exchange Management, Tresna Wilda Suparyono.
Out of the 51 present commission members, 24 voted in favor of Hendar, 18 for Tresna, 5 for Mulya, and one was considered not valid.
Hendar will take over Muliaman Hadad’s position as Deputy Governor due to his predecessor resigning to take up the post of the new Chief of Financial Services Authority (OJK) in 2012. Hendar will remain in his position until 2016.
Hendar is an official whose carrier began at BI. He started in 1983 as a staff member for public loans. His carrier rose to take up the post of head of monetary policies in 2004 and executive director of the Department of Monetary Management in 2009. Since the beginning of 2013, Hendar was promoted to Assistant BI Governor.
In March earlier this year, Hendar took the fit and proper test to apply for the position of Deputy BI Governor replacing Budi Mulya but lost to Perry Warijiyo.
