KPK Demand 8 Years Prison Time for Kendari Mayor, Father

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutors demanded a jail sentence of eight years for inactive Kendari Mayor Adriatma Dwi Putra and his father Asrun, who is a former mayor of the city as well. They are also charged to pay Rp500 million of subsidiary fines for six additional months of jail term.

Prosecutors said the two men are proven to have received bribes from Hasmun Hamzah, the director of PT Sarana Bangun Nusantara.

"We demand the defendants be declared guilty of all charges for practicing corruption together," KPK prosecutor Ali Fikri read the indictment today at the Jakarta Corruption Court.

Prosecutors said that the father and son received Rp2.8 billion from Hasmun, for the latter to buy a "piece" of the Bungkutoko-Kendari New Port road construction project for the 2018-2020 fiscal year.

The KPK also said that Asrun had received Rp4 billion from Hasmun during his term as Kendari Mayor. Hasmun allegedly bribed Asrun so that his company will be allocated several construction projects.

According to the prosecutors, the Kendari City Financial and Asset Management Agency's (BPKAD) chief, Fatmawaty Faqih, was the intermediary between Asrun, Andriatma and Hasmun.

Both Adriatma and his father did not say much to reporters when asked about how they feel over the indictment.

The two men were named suspects in March following a KPK sting operation in Kendari, where they, Hasmun and Fatimah were arrested. The KPK also confiscated billions worth of cash, which they suspect Asrun would use to fund the campaign for his run as governor during the 2018 regional chiefs elections in North Sulawesi.
